New data from the City of Dallas has revealed just over a dozen restaurants with flawless health inspection scores between February 15 and March 14.

The City of Dallas has maintained public records of health inspections for eateries across the area from October 2016 to the present. These records track each eatery’s name, location, inspection date, and inspection score, along with an explanation for any and all point deductions based on critical, non-critical, and minor violations of health code standards.

Inspection scores are based on a 0-100 grading scale. Scores between 90 and 100 are considered “very good,” while a score of 69 or below is considered “failing” and requires a follow-up inspection within ten days. Any unresolved issues discovered during reinspection may result in the establishment’s immediate closure. A score of 59 or below is considered “unacceptable” and requires immediate closure and another inspection before reopening.

Of 240 entities included in this latest data drop, only 14, or just under 6%, received perfect scores.

The Dallas Express took the time to visit one of these entities: Botolino Gelato Artigianale, an ice cream shop specializing in gelato located at 269 N. Bishop Ave. in Dallas, owned by Carlo Gattini. The desserts offered by this shop are a fusion of Gattini’s Texas and Italian heritage.

Upon arrival, visitors are greeted with a clean and inviting atmosphere with different confectionaries on full display, complete with names. While offering mainly gelato, the shop also offers a variety of other sweets, such as cakes, chocolates, and more.

Our reporter ordered a small cup of vanilla ice cream. The staff was attentive and friendly while preparing the order.

The ice cream was a delectable combination of sweet, soft, and creamy, with a strong vanilla flavor. Coupled with the inviting atmosphere, the sunny day only magnified the experience.

In a phone interview, Gattini told The Dallas Express that this was not his first time receiving a perfect score from the City and that he was once again pleased to receive it.

“It is a little bit unusual, but we take what we do very seriously, including hygiene. We make ice cream, so it’s something you have to be very careful about. So we followed the rules and probably exceeded them, really,” said Gattini.
