A 10-year-old Dallas boy has raised over $1,000 for Ukrainian children affected by the ongoing war.
According to CBS 11 News, Mac Connatser set up a lemonade stand to help raise money for Ukrainian children trying to get to safety. His initial goal was to raise at least $500 to send to charity organization Save The Children.
Mac’s effort got off to a strong start with an initial donation of $100 from his grandmother. A police officer patrolling the parking lot where the 10-year-old had set up his stand then made a contribution. Impressively, both offerings came before Mac started selling the lemonade.
“I think he’s committed to break into his piggy bank if he needs to, [to] reach his goal,” Mac’s mom, Aubrey Connatser, said.
At the end of the day, Mac had collected over $1,400.
In an interview, the 10-year-old said he had been watching the news, and saw that there were a lot of people evacuating Ukraine. Mac added that he did not want anyone to get left behind.
To contribute to the children’s safe evacuation, Mac went to work on his lemonade stand. The 10-year-old set up shop in front of Royal Lane Baptist Church in Dallas.
It is fair to say that Mac’s efforts for the children in Ukraine impressed most of his customers.
“Anytime I see any young person who has a heart for the world, anytime any young person doesn’t live in their little bubble and is aware of the needs of the world, it just gets my heart,” one of Mac’s customers told CBS 11 News.
Aubrey said she taught her son that “each act of kindness, no matter how small, is never wasted.”
It would seem he took that advice to heart.
