City of Dallas issued the following announcement on June 17
Celebrating Dallas Sanitation Services workers for Waste & Recycling Workers Appreciation Week
As the sun is rising and many are opening their eyes for the first time, the engines of the Sanitation Services trucks are already running as staff prepare to journey into Dallas communities to collect set outs across the city. Though many City employees were sent to work remotely at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sanitation Services staff continued providing service to residents each day. Collection volumes increased significantly during the pandemic, with record-breaking numbers while people were staying home to stay safe.
In pouring rain, extreme heat and even after a snow, these tough workers continue reporting in to do the necessary work that keeps our city clean. One particular shining example of dedication in the Sanitation Services department is Mr. Mark Scott (pictured), a crew leader on the Solid Waste team. Mark has been with the City of Dallas for about 7 years.
Though long days and inclement weather can be challenging to endure, Mark is always sharing his positive energy with others to keep spirits high. “I see [my coworkers] more than I see my family,” he says. “We’ll eat lunch together and share stories… they’re like an extended family.”
We are so appreciative of all of the work that Mr. Scott and the hundreds of Sanitation Services staff do each day. This Waste & Recycling Workers Appreciation Week, let’s give our teammates in SAN a hearty thank you for their unwavering commitment to service first.
