Christians who are dating now have a fun and intentional way to explore whether or not they are on the same page.
The name of the game is YOKED. It is an app – a digital game of cards – that navigates valuable — and sometimes difficult — conversation with the objective being discernment for spiritual compatibility.
Designer and Co-Founder of YOKED, Kenneth Spresley, proudly declared: “YOKED is the very first of its genre in the conversation-game category.”
The app creates a safe environment in which players can make real connections and help break the ice with over 100 meaningful conversation starters.
YOKED poses a series of deliberate questions designed to stimulate dialogue between interested parties. The questions commence with biblical theology and marital expectations. The game then extends to cover the typically more fraught topics such as family values, finances, and sex.
The February, 2022 launch of YOKED is eagerly awaited, with a website dedicated to accepting pre-orders now. Erica O’Neil, the mother of teenage twins Amir and Amari O’Neil, recently pre-ordered multiple games of YOKED. She also secured advertising space to assist in the promotion of the young start-up company on various social media channels.
Spresley shared: “My failures in marriage and in dating had me re-evaluating and analyzing the conversations and the substance of those conversations. This led to deep discussions with Co-Founders Jamal Perkins and Faith Kashaa about creating something that would help strengthen the foundation of marriages for the future.”
A Pew Research Center study of 4,752 people indicated that 74% of people who were divorced or separated identified themselves as being Christians. A pre-evaluation tool such as YOKED could help some Christian couples assess the compatibility of core beliefs and practices prior to planning any nuptials.
