The Danone Company has issued a nationwide voluntary recall of its popular YoCrunch® yogurt products after discovering plastic pieces in their “dome toppers,” those clear snap-on containers that hold cookie crumbles, granola, and candy mix-ins.
The company stated that the plastic fragments may pose a choking hazard if accidentally swallowed.
While the yogurt itself is safe, the recall covers all existing flavors and sizes of YoCrunch® products, specifically those with plastic lids.
According to a report from the FDA, some consumers reported finding sharp-edged, clear plastic pieces ranging in size from 7 to 25 millimeters, roughly the length of a thumbtack, inside the toppers. No injuries have been reported, but Danone says the risk of choking on the plastic pieces prompted the immediate recall.
“Danone U.S., the makers of YoCrunch, takes every consumer experience seriously and is initiating this voluntary recall in line with its commitment to product quality and consumer safety,” the company stated.
The recall affects YoCrunch® yogurts sold in grocery stores nationwide.
Shoppers who have recently purchased a pack are encouraged to discard any affected products. Refunds are available through the YoCrunch® Consumer Care Line at 1-877-344-4886, Monday through Friday.
YoCrunch® has long been marketed as a fun, family-friendly snack, popular for its variety of toppings ranging from M&M’s to Oreo cookie pieces.
Until further notice, consumers are advised to avoid eating YoCrunch® products with toppers, even if they look fine.
