Walmart is recalling approximately 850,000 Ozark Trail 64 oz. Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles due to a defect that can cause the lid to “forcefully eject,” posing serious impact and laceration hazards.
The recall involves bottles with a model number of 83-662, as indicated on the product packaging. The silver stainless-steel bottles feature a black one-piece screwcap lid and have an Ozark Trail logo on the side. The hazard occurs when food, carbonated beverages, or perishable liquids like juice or milk are stored inside for an extended period, causing the lid to eject forcefully upon opening.
Walmart has reported three incidents of consumers injured by lids ejecting and striking them in the face. Two of these incidents resulted in permanent vision loss after consumers were struck in the eye.
The bottles, manufactured in China and imported by Olympia Tools International Inc. of Covina, California, and Walmart Inc. of Bentonville, Arkansas, have been sold exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com since 2017 for about $15.
Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled bottles and contact Walmart for a full refund. Refunds can be obtained by returning the bottle to any Walmart store, by contacting Walmart toll-free at 800-925-6278 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT daily, or by visiting online at www.walmart.com/help or https://corporate.walmart.com/recalls.
The recall is identified by number 25-377.
