Six Flags parks across the country will be getting a massive overhaul, with Arlington now slated for one of the longest log flumes in the world.

Six Flags Entertainment Corp., the world’s leading regional theme park company, announced an aggressive multi-million dollar investment package that will add an array of new attractions, technological upgrades to enhance guest experiences, and luxury amenities, such as glamping tents and spas.

“At Six Flags, our relentless drive for innovation is powered by our passion to create moments of pure joy and excitement for our guests,” said Selim Bassoul, Six Flags president and CEO, in a press release. “This investment is central to our strategy to create fun and memorable experiences for every member of the family and reinforces Six Flags’ position as the leader in thrills.

This is the largest improvement drive in over a decade, with capital expenditures for the year 2024 expected to hit between $200 million and $220 million.

Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, already home to new rides like the Pirates of the Speelunker Cave and the AQUAMAN: Power Wave roller coaster, will see its log flume expanded next year.

El Aserradero debuted in 1963 as the very first log flume in the world. It will reopen in 2024 as El Rio Lento, boasting 2,500 feet of track, a new lift hill, and two new drops, including one that will be a nose-first plunge sure to make visitors’ hearts race.

“Our new El Rio Lento will capture the spirit of the very first log flume as we are enhancing the guest experience so they can continue to create amazing family memories,” Richard Douaihy, president of Six Flags Over Texas Park, said, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Other improvements slated for Six Flags nationwide include brand-new rides that bring DC’s iconic superheroes and supervillains to life through a partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment and DC Comics.

For instance, Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio will see new attractions like the SHAZAM! Tower of Eternity, the CYBORG Cyber Revolution, and the METROPOLIS Transit Authority, a monorail-style train ride with aerial views of the DC Universe.

In addition to the new attractions, Six Flags will elevate the customer experience in its 27 parks. Enhanced amenities include upgraded dining options, technology improvements, and shaded cabanas to help guests beat the heat.

Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey is slated for a new Savannah Sunset Resort & Spa, plus new luxury glamping tents in its 350-acre Wild Safari Park.

These capital investments come at a crucial juncture for the theme park industry.

As previously reported in The Dallas Express, Disney amusement parks have logged record-low turnouts this summer. Many American consumers are turning away from theme parks and toward cruises and vacations abroad in Europe or the Caribbean.

Significant investment has been poured into the cruise industry lately, with Carnival Cruise Line adding a new $950 million cruise ship called Carnival Jubilee to its fleet. The Texas-star embellished 19-deck vessel will soon set out on trips year-long from the Port of Galveston, as previously covered in The Dallas Express.

Through collaborations, technological advancements, and customer-focused improvements, Six Flags aims to captivate new and returning guests, promising an exhilarating future for theme park enthusiasts.

Six Flags is currently running its “Biggest Sale of the Year” until September 5. This promotion provides substantial savings of up to 70% on season passes, entry tickets, and additional perks.
