The USPS Connect Local service was launched this summer and allows online and physical entities to access their local and regional delivery network, resulting in extremely fast service.
The plan was proposed over 10 years ago. It aims to help USPS become profitable as it reorients itself around a thriving package-delivery business. The agency has been orienting itself towards e-commerce, which has instigated growth in its economic project. This service should allow USPS to make up for its decline of First-Class Mail and difficulties with their payment obligations related to pensions.
After spending more than a year at home, consumers have turned to online shopping in a big way. This has been beneficial for its merchants, but consumers are obviously more and more demanding in terms of the quality of service and shorter delivery times.
With USPS Connect, sellers will be able to drop packages off at their local Post Office, either for next-day delivery or, if they drop them off in the early morning, same-day.
Amazon has set a new standard with its delivery mechanisms, and it is important for small businesses to take advantage of USPS Connect to compete with the big players of the industry who dominate next-day and speedy shipping.
Jakki Krage Strako, the executive vice president and chief commerce and business solutions officer at the Postal Service, explains: “If you’re a micro or a small business that makes regular deliveries within a relatively small geographic area, this will give you a tremendously convenient and affordable shipping option to reach your customers with same-day and next-day service. This will definitely give you a competitive edge.”
