Topgolf is pursuing plans to build a new golf entertainment complex in Grand Prairie, which will make it the fifth North Texas location when it opens.

The popular Dallas-based driving range and entertainment business is working with Grand Prairie officials to finalize plans to build a new Topgolf location near the city’s EpicCentral entertainment district, the company said Thursday.

EpicCentral is a 172-acre park site located in the heart of North Texas off Highway 161. It includes multiple lakes, a grand lawn, recreation facilities, a city-operated indoor water park, and pad sites for future retail opportunities.

The future Topgolf facility is expected to create 300 jobs. It will feature the traditional climate-controlled multilevel outdoor hitting bays, big screen TVs with year-round programming, music, and concessions, according to the company.

“Me and my old coworkers went to Topgolf for years,” Brittany Miller, a local software developer, told The Dallas Express. “The company I used to work for used to have social events there sometimes, which was always interesting. Plus, I’ve been a few times with friends.”

Each bay will come equipped with Toptracer technology, which is used to trace the flight path of golf balls hit by customers.

“It is a cool place to just hang out and have fun on a Friday,” said Miller, adding that her golf swing still needs some work.

“I don’t live near Grand Prairie, so I’ll likely never go to that location,” Miller explained, “but the people who live there will have something fun and new to do there.”

Topgolf operates 12 venues in Texas, with four in North Texas located in Allen, Dallas, The Colony, and Fort Worth. In total, the Dallas-based company operates 80 venues across the globe.

In 2020, golf equipment and apparel maker Callaway Golf Co. acquired Topgolf. The acquisition has helped boost Callaway’s balance sheet, generating a record $714 million in the fourth quarter of 2021.

A construction timeframe was not provided by Topgolf or Grand Prairie officials, but in the meantime, Grand Prairie residents can enjoy the “intersection of technology and sports entertainment” at a Topgolf location nearby.
