The opportunity for people to claim a share of the $45 million Walmart settlement over allegedly false prices is running out.

After being slapped with a complaint over purported overcharging, Walmart agreed to pay customers who purchased products sold by weight. While the class-action settlement has not yet been approved, customers wishing to see returns must file their claims soon.

The lawsuit, filed in 2022, alleges that the Arkansas-based retailer intentionally mislabeled weights on products, falsely inflated weights, and overcharged for clearance items, according to WFAA.

While the company has not admitted any wrongdoing, it did agree to the settlement to prevent litigation. As a result, customers can receive a part of the $45 million if their claims are approved.

Customers must submit a claim form by June 5. Receipts and proof of purchase are not required but could impact the company’s payment amount. Payments will range from $10 to $500.

Eligible products include sold-by-weight produce, seafood, meat, and bulk citrus.

Without receipts, customers will only receive $10 to $25 based on the number of eligible items they claim to have purchased.

Customers with receipts can claim 2% of the total cost for each weighted good, as reported by the Associated Press. However, the cap is $500.

“We will continue providing our customers everyday low prices to help them save money on the products they want and need,” a spokesperson for Walmart said in a statement received by AP. “We still deny the allegations, however we believe a settlement is in the best interest of both parties.”

The opportunity to opt out of or be excluded from the settlement ended on May 22, so the only way people can get remittance at this point is by joining the class action settlement.

A final settlement hearing, scheduled for June 12, will determine Walmart’s final payout amount.
