Drivers in Texas are getting some good news when they visit the gas pump these days.

The American Automobile Association says that Texas currently has the lowest gas prices in the nation. As of November 27, AAA reports that Texas has an average gas price of $2.709 per gallon, more than 20% less than the national average of $3.250 per gallon.

The state with the highest cost at the pump is California at $4.900 per gallon, followed by Hawaii at $4.718.

The individual counties with the lowest gas prices are spread across Texas, with a few located in North Texas. Collin County currently has an average of $2.666 per gallon, while Grayson County averages $2.643.

Dallas County and Tarrant County have prices averaging $2.728 and $2.703, respectively.

Wilbarger County currently has the lowest average price in the state, standing at $2.473. The majority of counties with the highest costs at the pump appear to be concentrated among the western counties.

Texas gas prices have also been declining over the past few months, with prices one month ago sitting 30 cents higher at $3.009.

Gas prices in the United States have declined for 60 consecutive days, the longest streak in over a year, according to Business Insider.

And there is more good news, as gas prices have dropped considerably from the same time period last year. The average gas price in Texas was $2.98 as of November 22, 2022, meaning current prices are 9% lower than last year. The national average gas price for the same time period was $3.63, meaning current prices are more than 10% less than last year.
