Do you know someone, a business, or a civic group that goes above and beyond to preserve and protect the environment here in Texas?
Now is the time to nominate them for a 2022 Texas Environmental Excellence Award (TEEA). The TEEA is an annual awards program that honors achievements in environmental preservation and protection.
As part of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s (TCEQ) ongoing mission, the TEEA spotlights Texans’ environmental preservation and protection successes.
With ten award categories, citizens, communities, businesses, and organizations are all eligible for the state’s highest environmental honor.
According to the TCEQ, environmental stewards can be nominated in one of the following categories:
- Agriculture: Successful projects on agricultural land
- Civic/Community: Community partner projects
- Education: Projects highlighting environmental educations programs
- Environmental Educator of the Year: Educator who highlights environmental education
- Individual: A person who is known for their environmental achievements
- Innovative Operations/Management: Changes in operation or management that benefit the environment
- Pollution Prevention: Projects that reduce or eliminate pollution at its source
- Technical/Technology: A new technology or approach that helps the environment
- Water Conservation: Innovative water-saving techniques or solutions
- Youth: Projects led by environmentally-minded youth
Since the program’s inception in 1993, more than 250 environmental successes have been recognized, with the ultimate goal being to showcase these positive stories and encourage others to advance environmental stewardship in their everyday lives.
Gov. Greg Abbott and the TCEQ Commissioners will host a ceremony and banquet on May 11, 2022, to honor the winning local communities, small businesses, citizens, and teachers who demonstrated environmental excellence.
The deadline for TEEA nominations is Sept. 24. Nominations are available on the TEEA website.
