Restaurants are looking for innovative ways to revitalize an industry that post-pandemic fallouts and historically high inflation have challenged.

Some companies are cooking up creative concepts that guests might soon encounter; however, the jury is still out on which, if any, will stand the test of time.

Leveraging Artificial Intelligence

Restaurants, like many industries, are harnessing the power of AI to stay competitive. One way they do this is by using the services of companies like PopMenu.

Think of PopMenu as a proficient analyst, administrator, and marketing guru rolled into one. Using the service, restaurants can generate automated personalized marketing based on patron behavior and have PopMenu provide 24/7 call support, all without humans.

Food from the Future

Restaurants are often the first to experiment with new cuisine and state-of-the-art cooking methods. As a result, you may encounter fare straight out of a science fiction movie.

One company, Pairwise, is leveraging CRISPR to produce gene-edited salad. According to the company’s website, CRISPR can “make precise changes in the DNA sequence that produce desirable characteristics.”

For example, they can edit genes to enable fruit to remain fresher for longer.

While it all sounds promising, some regulators have resisted adopting the technology.

For example, the European Union (EU) has prohibited commercially producing or selling genetically engineered crops, citing health risks. Hungary, in particular, remains staunchly opposed to introducing the technology to the country’s agricultural industry.

“GMO-free agricultural production is anchored in our constitution,” stated a Hungarian representative at an EU meeting last July, per Euractiv.

“For us, this is a matter of national sovereignty.”
