A restaurant that’s been a staple at the Fort Worth Stockyards since the 1940s is set to undergo more than $2 million in renovations in a project expected to last a year.
Cattlemen’s Steakhouse is located at 2458 N. Main St., nestled within Fort Worth’s national historic district. The project, called “Cattlemen’s Basement” in a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulating filing, is scheduled to begin in February.
A Cattlemen’s spokesperson did not return a message seeking comment.
According to the restaurant’s website, Jesse and Mozelle Roach opened Cattlemen’s Steakhouse in 1947. In the dining room, murals depict the stock cattle industry, and the menu features meals centered around high-quality beef, along with chicken, grilled shrimp, and fish.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported the new construction comes as the restaurant continues nearly $3 million in interior renovations and an outdoor patio.
The newspaper also reported that Dan Schryer filed a mixed-beverage permit with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for the restaurant in November 2022. Schryer is CEO of 101 Studios Co., the entertainment company behind such series as “Yellowstone” and “1883.”
Other restaurants at the Fort Worth Stockyards include Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que, Rodeo Tacos, and Lonesome Dove Western Bistro.
The district has seen a bevy of new development ushered in initially by the introduction of Hotel Drover and the phased Fort Worth Heritage Development agreement, featuring retail, office space, apartments, and parking spaces as part of a partnership between Majestic Realty Co. and Hickman Cos.
Grapevine-based Duncan Design Group is the design firm listed on the filing. Its body of work includes hotels, retailers, clubs, bars, and restaurants — among them Levu, Avenu, Karma Lounge, Landmark, Mi Cocina Monkey Bar, Dough Bros, Fedora Restaurant, and Mi Cocina Lake Highlands in Dallas.
