Nissan is recalling 642,698 Rogue SUVs in the United States across two separate safety campaigns due to engine and electronic throttle defects that could cause a sudden loss of power while driving.

The recalls affect certain 2023–2025 model year Nissan Rogue vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5-liter variable compression (VC Turbo) engines, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Federal regulators said both issues could increase the risk of a crash.

Engine Failure Recall (26V080)

The larger recall impacts 323,917 Rogue SUVs from model years 2023–2025.

NHTSA said increased engine oil temperatures may degrade lubrication, potentially causing bearing seizure that could lead to engine damage or failure.

“If the engine fails while driving, it can result in a loss of motive power and an inability to restart, increasing the risk of a crash,” the recall report states.

In rare cases, a bearing failure could breach the engine block and allow hot oil to discharge, increasing the risk of an engine fire.

Nissan reported 690 warranty claims related to the condition and said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries.

Electronic Throttle Defect Recall (26V081)

A second recall affects 318,781 Rogue SUVs from model years 2024–2025.

According to NHTSA, during the ignition start-up process an internal diagnostic routine may cause a gear within the electronic throttle chamber assembly to weaken and fracture.

A fractured gear could interfere with throttle operation and potentially lead to a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Nissan reported 3,111 warranty claims related to the throttle issue and said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries.

Repairs And Owner Notification

For the engine recall, dealers will:

  • Reprogram the engine control module (ECM)
  • Inspect for diagnostic trouble codes
  • Test drive the vehicle
  • Inspect the oil pan for metal debris if necessary
  • Replace the engine if required

For the throttle recall, dealers will:

  • Reprogram the ECM
  • Inspect the throttle system
  • Replace the electronic throttle chamber if necessary

All repairs will be performed free of charge.

Dealers were notified February 19, 2026. Owners are expected to receive notification letters beginning March 27, 2026.

Vehicle owners can check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website to determine whether their SUV is affected or contact Nissan customer service at 800-647-7261.
