Ahead of the PGA of America’s big move to Texas, a thousand new jobs have opened at the Omni PGA Frisco resort.

At 660 acres, the resort is the largest in the United States currently under construction and is set to open in May — just in time for the 2023 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. Until then, the resort will have plenty of space to fill.

“It’s one of the largest hiring initiatives in the history of both [Collin and Denton] counties,” said Jeff Smith, vice president and managing director of Omni PGA Frisco. “Am I worried, no. Is it a big challenge for us to make that happen, absolutely.”

The resort aims to recruit “top talent” by offering “an exceptional variety of positions that foster career satisfaction and offer[ing] opportunity for growth in different fields.” Smith, who has worked for over 30 years in hotels, noted that the hospitality and travel industry is back in high demand.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Omni PGA Frisco is a $520 million development that will feature a 500-room hotel and spa and 127,000 square feet of meeting space. In addition, there will be two championship courses, Fields Ranch East and Fields Ranch West, that are set to host some big tournaments in the future, including the PGA Championship in 2027.

To tackle the hiring challenge, the resort is offering signing bonuses and tuition reimbursements for new hires. It is also reaching out to local nonprofit charities to find people in need of work, CBS DFW reported.

Omni PGA Frisco Human Resources Director Seema Patel praised the city when asked how she handles such a big hiring task.

“We’ve been really, really fortunate with the community of Frisco,” she said.

Of the open positions, 130 are in management and range across several job titles, including party planners for the resort’s significant meeting space.

Two hiring events are scheduled for February 3 and 4, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at UNT New College located at 12995 Preston Rd. in Frisco.

Beyond golf, Omni PGA Frisco has said it is already providing tours of furnished rooms to show individuals interested in booking summer weddings and group meetings, according to CBS DFW.

“We are trying to create a destination resort that’s unlike anything in the United States,” Smith said. “It’s that simple.”
