American Airlines will schedule more flights from Dallas-Fort Worth to China in early 2024.

The company said it plans to add daily flights from DFW International Airport to Shanghai Pudong International Airport as part of a joint U.S.-China agreement to boost the number of flights between the rival nations.

More scheduled flights between the two countries will begin in January, but plane tickets will appear for sale starting this weekend, according to Jay Singh, corporate communication specialist at American Airlines.

“This weekend, we will be increasing our schedule to operate daily service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Shanghai as we see demand increase,” Singh told The Dallas Express in an emailed statement.

“We are grateful to the Department of Transportation and the State Department for their leadership and support and will continue to work closely with the U.S. government as the market slowly reopens,” he explained.

The Fort Worth-based carrier already makes four weekly flights between the two airports using a Boeing 777-200. Now that government officials have reached an agreement and China has started to lift its pandemic-era travel restrictions, the Fort Worth-based carrier said it plans on doubling its service to the country.

American Airlines is not just expanding operations to include more trips to China, the carrier announced Thursday that it will also be starting new routes to several other destinations, including Barcelona, Spain; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Cozumel, Mexico; and Nassau, Bahamas.

The company is thrilled to add new destinations, according to Brian Znotins, senior vice president of network and schedule planning.

“New service from Philadelphia and expanded trans-Atlantic service from Chicago and Dallas-Fort Worth will offer customers convenient one-stop access from more than 200 unique destinations across the U.S. to Europe next summer,” he said in a new release.

“American will be the only airline to connect DFW nonstop to Barcelona,” Singh told The Dallas Express.

American Airlines is far from the only U.S. carrier planning extra overseas flights to China. Other U.S. carriers adding flights include United Airlines, which plans to expand service in October and November, and Delta Airlines, which expects to make up to 10 weekly flights later this year and then expand further in 2024, Bloomberg reported.
