Texas Fried Chicken, anyone? Yum! Brands announced that its iconic restaurant franchise, Kentucky Fried Chicken, is moving its U.S. headquarters from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano, Texas.
KFC’s national headquarters will share space with the KFC and Pizza Hut Global Headquarters, which is already anchored in Plano. The move will involve the relocation of nearly 200 workers, including about 90 formerly remote workers who will now join their colleagues on campus at the new headquarters.
Approximately 100 corporate roles will transition to the new headquarters over the next six months, while the formerly remote roles will relocate over a span of about 18 months, Yum! Brands said in a press release. These employees will receive relocation and transition support throughout the process.
“These changes position us for sustainable growth and will help us better serve our customers, employees, franchisees and shareholders,” said Yum! Brands CEO David Gibbs.
“Ultimately, bringing more of our people together on a consistent basis will maximize our unrivaled culture and talent as a competitive advantage. I’m confident this is another important step in growing our iconic restaurant brands globally,” Gibbs added.
KFC is not entirely leaving its Kentucky roots, though. Its parent company, Yum! Brands and the KFC Foundation, a nonprofit organization that benefits KFC employees and communities, will continue operating from the corporate offices in Louisville. In addition, KFC has announced plans to build a first-of-its-kind flagship restaurant in the city, although the company has not given any further details about the new venture.
Besides KFC, Yum! Brands’ concepts include Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Habit Burger & Grill, with more than 61,000 restaurants in more than 155 countries and territories. Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill are headquartered in Irvine, California.
