Garages of America has expanded its presence in North Texas with its newest facility in Frisco.
On March 27, the company announced that it would open 52 garage suites with car storage not too far from its original Frisco location. The new garages, off the Dallas North Tollway at the northwest corner of Frisco Street and Research Road, offer spaces ranging from 1,500 to 2,250 square feet.
The original Garages of America opened in 2000 at 6767 All Stars Ave. and is now completely sold out of its 106 units. With demand still pressing, the company decided to expand to the new location, which is already 60% sold.
Garages of America is unique in that customers purchase, rather than rent, the garages built by the company.
“At Garages of America we have redefined the word garage. Here, you don’t rent space. You buy it. And that means exactly what you think. When you buy a garage suite, you receive a deed, title insurance, and all the perks of commercial real estate ownership—your space builds equity and you have complete financial control,” reads a description on the company’s website.
Units come plumbed, heated, and wired for cable, internet, and phone connections. Owners can customize spaces, with some even adding lofts with a man cave to their personalized units. Think of high ceilings, clean floors, and a lounging area loft where you can admire your collection while enjoying the latest Cowboys game on a big-screen TV.
Friends Fred Gans and Jack Griffin developed the business concept during a meeting in 2008. The two were inspired after Gans learned of an out-of-state real estate storage idea for large items, like RVs and cars, that included condo ownership.
Garges of America now operates multiple locations in North Texas, including spots in Dallas, Garland, and Plano. The company also has garage locations in Houston, Austin, and Cypress.
