Frontier Airlines announced intentions to expand its operations in the DFW area, WFAA reports.
“The answer is simple,” Frontier Airlines President and CEO Barry Biffle said. “Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is growing considerably. You’re adding 100,000 people per year.”
The company said Thursday that it plans to add more positions in the spring of 2023, including 120 new airline pilots and 220 flight attendants, paying more than $78 million in wages to DFW area workers that the company will hire.
“Being a part of the community and doing what we can to add to the economic activity here is really important,” Biffle said.
With the pandemic largely fading away, families are planning more vacations and are looking for lower costs, one travel agent told WFAA.
Airline tickets this holiday season are up by more than 25%, claims Steve Cosgrove, a travel agent at Dynamic Travel & Cruises. According to Cosgrove, due to the increasing air travel, he is in a better position to help his customers, who can sometimes find better deals by changing airlines.
“They will change for a dollar,” Cosgrove said, “you know, and as a travel agent, some of the things we have to stress to people that it’s not all about price. You know, you don’t want the cheapest hotel in Vegas. They rent by the hour.”
Frontier Airlines plans to add nonstop flights to places like New York, California, and Jamaica, which helps travel agents such as Cosgrove.
“A lot of times, you can’t find seats on a nonstop flight. So, you’ve got to go through Miami or something like that. So that’s good news,” Cosgrove said.
According to Simple Flying, Frontier Airlines has suggested that many crew members are interested in being based in Texas. Biffle believes it will greatly benefit the local community. “We are thrilled to partner with the outstanding leadership at DFW to bring new jobs and meaningful economic impact to the Dallas Fort Worth community,” Biffle said.
