IKEA is trying out a new concept within Best Buy, and Dallas-Fort Worth will serve as one of the test markets for the pilot program.
The two giant retailers recently announced the launch of “IKEA in Best Buy” shops in 10 Best Buy locations throughout Texas and Florida. The pilot program is expected to kick off this fall. It will be the first time the ready-to-assemble Scandinavian furniture chain has offered its products through another U.S. retailer.
“With this partnership, we get to combine technology and design and show shoppers what’s truly possible in their home like never before,” said Best Buy’s chief merchandising officer, Patrick McGinnis.
IKEA U.S. chief operating officer Rob Olson echoed the sentiment, saying the partnership aims to make “great design and functionality more accessible for the many.”
“By bringing together our home furnishing expertise, products, and services with Best Buy’s leadership in appliances and technology, we’re creating a one-stop destination where customers can design their dream kitchen, storage solutions or laundry space with ease.”
The “IKEA in Best Buy” location will be 1,000 square feet in size, showcasing inspirational kitchen and laundry room settings. Half of the pilot locations will be located in Texas, with the other half in Florida.
IKEA also plans to open two of its standalone locations in North Texas before the end of the year. IKEA Rockwall, which was announced last fall, will debut the retailer’s Swedish Deli concept in addition to a Swedish Bistro.
Earlier this year, The Dallas Express reported that the giant furniture store was finally making its debut in Dallas. The Dallas location at The Shops at Park Lane will be a version of the company’s small-format store. While a wide variety of items will be available in person, many items will need to be ordered.
