On February 26, Fort Worth’s Fanboys Marketplace, a pop culture specialist store and the largest collectible toy store in Texas, will be hosting a storewide Toy Show and Pop Swap event where collectors can buy, sell, and trade from a massive collection of the popular Funko Pop figurines and other toys.
The one-day event will only take place in the Fort Worth Fanboys Marketplace, located at 6385 Camp Bowie Boulevard. Entry is free and all are invited.
The Fanboys Marketplace Toy Show and Pop Swap will offer fans and collectors a wide selection of Funko figurines and toys. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and last until 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 26. In addition to the Funko Pop vendors already located in the store, several guest vendors will be setting up tables, offering a vast selection of Pops, action figures, and other toys and collectibles. There will also be a Hot Wheels race.
Such events as this one allow Funko Pop vendors and collectors the opportunity to do business in a location where the market for the figures is usually oversaturated. Fanboys’ owner, Mike Rogers explained there is an art to being aware of what people will look for and predicting what will be popular, and right now, Funko Pops are on the list.
Funko Pops are now available from 25,000 retail brands worldwide, from Walmart to Amazon to Hot Topic and even Foot Locker. Funko Pop netted $686.1 million in 2018; figurines accounted for 82% of those sales. The popularity of the figures has continued to grow, and fans love to gather at events to see the latest releases, rare figurines, and trade to fill their personal collections.
Lisa, the president of Fanboys Marketplace, shared, “So many people want to rent space for Pops, and we have to turn them away. You have to find a balance, else we’d only sell Pops.”Â
Aside from Pops, the store sells clothing, jewelry, art, home decor, and customizable gifts. Fanboys also hosts monthly mini-cons, Funko Pop swaps, Hot Wheels drag races, and nerf tournaments.
