Family Dollar Recalls Condoms, Pregnancy Tests and More

Family Dollar, the nationwide variety store, has recalled 40 brands of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, including pregnancy tests and condoms, in 48 states because the products were mishandled during storage before shipment to the franchise’s 8,000 locations.

“To date, Family Dollar has not received any consumer complaints or reports of illness related to this recall,” the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported of the company’s voluntary recall. “This recall is being conducted out of an abundance of caution.”

The FDA press release stated that the products were stored “outside of labeled temperature requirements.”

Among the recalled items are pregnancy tests, condoms, marijuana test kits, first aid supplies, dental cleaners and adhesives, and six Colgate toothpaste and mouthwash products.

The recall includes products shipped to stores between May 1 and June 10, according to the FDA. Family Dollar has notified its affected stores, instructing them to immediately check their stock, quarantine, and discontinue the sale of any affected product.

Family Dollar does not have any stores in Alaska or Hawaii. The stores in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington, did not receive any products subject to the Family Dollar recall.

Adverse reactions or quality issues with the recalled products can be reported to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online, by regular mail, or by fax.

Customers with questions about the recall should call Family Dollar Customer Service at 844-636-7687 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST. Customers should contact their physician or health care provider if they have any problems while using these products.

Customers who purchased the affected product may return it to the Family Dollar store where it was purchased without a receipt.
