Dallas Love Field Airport (DAL) has cautioned holiday travelers to be wary of increased roadside traffic and the limited availability of garage parking ahead of the busy Thanksgiving season.

“All parking garage spots at Dallas Love Field are first-come, first-serve,” including valet, the Dallas-based airport said in a tweet.

DAL said that passenger volume over the 2022 Thanksgiving holiday is expected to be comparable to 2019 pre-pandemic levels. Even though DAL is constrained to 20 gates, it is able to run a consistent schedule with its fleet of Boeing 737 jets.

However, during the Thanksgiving period last year, the company experienced the second-most travel disruptions of any airport in the country, according to the travel website Hopper.

For holiday travelers looking to avoid the same kind of disruptions during this year’s Thanksgiving rush, DAL recommends alternate means of transportation, including rideshares, public transportation, or lifts from family and friends.

With the holiday season in full swing, the top five highest volume days for passenger departures out of DAL are expected on:

  • Monday, November 21
  • Tuesday, November 22
  • Wednesday, November 23
  • Saturday, November 26
  • Sunday, November 27

In terms of the busiest travels days in December, the aviation analytics company Cirium predicts those will fall on:

  • Wednesday, December 21
  • Thursday, December 22
  • Friday, December 23
  • Wednesday, December 28
  • Friday, December 30

If garage parking is full, offsite parking services at the nearby The Parking Spot are also available.
