A Dallas-based investment firm announced a $10 billion technology fund Tuesday, marking a major expansion of its ability to finance private companies in artificial intelligence, computing infrastructure, and defense.

Disruptive, which founder and CEO Alex Davis established in 2012, plans to back approximately 10 growth-stage and late-stage companies through the new Disruptive Flagship Fund. The company expects to invest up to $1 billion in each, according to its October 27 announcement.

The Dallas Business Journal described the fund as the largest venture capital fund in Texas history. The distinction gives the announcement broader significance for Dallas, even though the firm has not identified local recipients of the investment capital.

Disruptive previously relied heavily on special-purpose vehicles, which allow investors to pool capital for individual transactions. The new flagship fund creates a larger pool for the firm to deploy across a concentrated portfolio, a shift that could enable Disruptive to make bigger commitments without assembling a separate investment vehicle for each deal.

The company says its strategy favors established private technology businesses rather than a wide range of early-stage startups.

Its past and current investments include Palantir, Airbnb, Databricks, Groq, Shield AI, and Spotify.

Davis said in the company announcement, “The best private technology companies are growing larger, staying private longer and requiring more capital than ever before.” He said the new fund gives Disruptive additional scale to pursue those opportunities.

The Dallas Connection

Disruptive began in Los Angeles before Davis brought operations back to Texas. The firm moved its headquarters to Dallas in 2024, placing the investment manager within North Texas’ expanding financial and technology business community, per D Magazine.

Its investment history includes a substantial bet on Groq, a company developing specialized chips for running artificial intelligence systems. Disruptive led a $350 million Groq investment in 2025. The publication also described a subsequent licensing agreement between Groq and Nvidia.

However, a Dallas headquarters does not necessarily mean the fund will finance Dallas-area startups or create local technology jobs. The firm’s announcement names no North Texas investment recipients and offers no local hiring or spending projections.

Disruptive said it obtained capital commitments for the $10 billion fund. That figure represents the fund’s announced size, not $10 billion already invested in technology businesses. The company has not publicly identified all of the approximately 10 companies it expects to back.
