A coffee company founded by two military veterans and firefighters in Dallas has begun to take off, landing a spot on the shelves of select Walmart stores come late July.

Fire Grounds Coffee Co. (FGCC) was launched in 2019 by Paul Clarke and Kyle Lund in Dallas, but the idea was conceived in Iraq.

“I just got tired of all the substandard coffee that they were sending us,” Clarke told Fox 4. “So I decided when I got back to my civilian job as a Dallas firefighter, I was going to start my own coffee company.”

Clarke served a 9-month tour in 2018, and upon his return stateside, he found a mountain of support for his burgeoning idea in his father, best friend, and fellow servicemen.

One of them was Lund, a former Marine, an Iraq veteran, and a firefighter.

“We’re throwing the football in the parking lot in the back of the fire station, and I was telling him about my idea,” Clarke recounted to Fox 4.

“[Lund] said, ‘I’m in’ and I said, ‘Well, what do you mean you’re in?’ He goes, ‘No … I’m going to help you launch this company,'” Clarke continued.

Lund currently runs the operational side of the business as president while continuing to serve Dallas Fire-Rescue as an engineer.

FGCC is not only run by first responders; the company also serves them.

Clarke and Lund started the Caffeinate-A-Station program alongside the coffee venture. The program allows the public to purchase five pounds of coffee for a group of first responders of their choosing for $54.99. Over 1,000 pounds of coffee have been donated thus far through the program.

FGCC is also growing with Walmart. Walmart is in line to stock FGCC coffee at over 300 of its stores in Texas in July.

“We believe that love goes into every cup we make here,” Clarke told Fox 4. “And we’re excited to share our coffee with even more people in Texas.”

In the meantime, FGCC coffee can be purchased online here.

Most of the product names appear to be inspired by Clarke and Lund’s day jobs. There’s a roast called Emergency Roast, a donut-flavored medium roast called Back the Blue, and the best-selling dark roast Bury Up Black.

Another coffee company brand operating with a larger purpose is La La Land Kind Cafe, as The Dallas Express previously reported. This brick-and-mortar chain has a mission to normalize kindness by serving up coffee with a smile and a compliment.
