Campbell’s is rolling out a new “High Quality Ingredients” soup line that prominently features “no artificial meat” labeling as the company seeks to rebuild consumer trust following a 2025 controversy involving a former executive’s recorded comments about its products.

The move comes more than eight months after a leaked audio recording captured then-VP in IT Martin Bally criticizing Campbell’s soups and claiming they contained “bioengineered meat” and “chicken from a 3-D printer,” as The Dallas Express reported at the time.

Campbell’s fired Bally and has repeatedly denied the claims.

The Dallas Express reported on the audio in November 2025. In the recording, Bally said, “Who buys our sh*t? I don’t buy Campbell’s products barely anymore. It’s not healthy now that I know what the f*ck’s in it.”

Campbell’s responded swiftly. The company stated on its official website that “Campbell’s does not use 3D-printed chicken, lab-grown chicken, or any form of artificial or bioengineered meat in our soups.” It emphasized that its chicken comes from “long-trusted, USDA approved U.S. suppliers.”

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced an investigation into the claims in late 2025, citing Florida’s ban on lab-grown meat sales. Campbell’s maintained that no such ingredients were used.

Bally was later fired after additional reports surfaced of other controversial remarks in the same recording. Campbell’s called the comments “vulgar, offensive and false.” A former employee who recorded the conversation filed a related lawsuit, but details of its resolution remain limited in public reports.

The controversy impacted consumer sentiment. Social media discussions and boycotts followed the audio’s release, with some longtime customers stating they stopped purchasing Campbell’s products. Company officials have not released specific profit figures tied directly to the incident, but the brand faced measurable reputational pressure in the months afterward.

Campbell’s new “High Quality Ingredients” line appears aimed at addressing those concerns. Product labeling explicitly notes the absence of artificial meat, a direct response to lingering questions raised in 2025.

As of July 2026, cell-cultured meat remains unavailable in widespread U.S. grocery sales, though limited approvals for restaurant use occurred in 2023. Industry observers note that several states have enacted restrictions or labeling requirements for cell-cultured proteins amid growing debate over alternative proteins. Campbell’s has positioned itself firmly against using such ingredients in its core soup products.

The company has not issued new public statements on the 2026 soup launch beyond product descriptions. Its 2025 denials remain the primary corporate position on the matter.
