BuzzBrews Kitchen filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection earlier this month, leaving the future of its two remaining restaurants in Dallas unclear.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the BuzzBrews location in Lakewood abruptly closed in late August. The spot prompted protests when it hosted “all-ages” drag shows earlier in the year. Two locations remain in operation, one in Deep Ellum and the other on North Central Expressway.
According to the bankruptcy filing, which the Dallas Business Journal first reported, the chain appeared to be in considerable financial trouble. BuzzBrews had estimated assets of up to $50,000, but its liabilities ran between $500,000 and $1 million, and it owed as many as 99 creditors.
BuzzBrews was known for serving breakfast all day and staying open late into the night. It has been a Dallas fixture for nearly 20 years.
Online reactions to the bankruptcy filing from locals appeared to be mixed, with some individuals lamenting the possible end of the chain and others quipping that bankruptcy filing did not come as much of a surprise.
