Blue Origin plans a $554.78 million manufacturing campus in Hutto that the company expects to add more than 2,000 jobs over the next decade, alongside an $18.171 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced the expansion on October 8. His office said Blue Origin Manufacturing LLC is constructing an advanced manufacturing and operations campus and that the state has extended the company a $10,000 Veteran Created Job Bonus in addition to the grant.
Blue Origin described the campus, called Constellation Park, as a 1.3 million-square-foot complex with multiple facilities that will manufacture satellite and communications equipment.
“Texas has long understood what it takes to lead in space exploration,” Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp said in the company’s October 8 announcement.
The campus will support production for TeraWave, the company’s satellite communications network for enterprise, data center and government customers. It will also expand production for Quartz, a ground communications network that supports low Earth orbit missions.
Blue Origin also plans to manufacture solar arrays, avionics, telecommunications equipment and other satellite hardware at the site.
The company said the projected jobs include manufacturing and related positions. Blue Origin already employs more than 550 people in Texas and traces its operations in the state to the establishment of Launch Site One in 2006.
The state assistance comes through a performance-based grant program. The governor’s office administers the Texas Enterprise Fund through its Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office and uses it for qualifying business relocations or expansions when Texas competes with out-of-state locations.
“Texas is the launchpad to a future of possibilities,” Abbott said in his office’s release.
Neither the governor’s release nor Blue Origin’s announcement provides a campus opening date. The company’s 10-year hiring projection does not mean Hutto will receive all of the announced jobs immediately.
