The assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk sparked a wave of celebratory posts from activists and media figures, drawing widespread condemnation.

Kirk had long warned about the dangers of abandoning civil dialogue. When asked by a student why he engaged in open debates, he explained:

“When people stop talking, really bad stuff starts. When marriages stop talking, divorce happens. When churches … fall apart. When civilizations stop talking, civil war ensues.

When you stop having human connection with those you disagree with, it becomes a lot easier to want to commit violence against that group. Whether it be the horrible genocides over the last 100 years, people stop talking to each other, because they lose their humanity.

What we as a culture have to get back to, is being able to have reasonable disagreement where violence is not an option.”

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Kirk, 31 — a husband and father of two — was shot and killed Wednesday during a student Q&A at Utah Valley University, the first stop of his “American Comeback Tour.”

Social media users quickly flooded platforms like Bluesky and Reddit with mocking and celebratory messages about Kirk’s murder.

Tarrant County GOP Chairman Bo French said the reaction revealed deep political divisions. He wrote that “all political violence in America comes from the left” and criticized Republicans for inaction. French posted his remarks on X, where he warned, “The veil has been lifted. It’s game on.”

French pointed to multiple examples of vulgar and disparaging posts aimed at Kirk.

“Charlie Kirk got in a debate with a gun and lost,” one Bluesky user wrote. Another added, “Hope the bullet’s okay after touching Charlie Kirk.”

Some posts went further. One Bluesky user wrote, “POUR OUT FOR CHARLIE KIRK!!! POURING THAT SH*T STRAIGHT TO MY STOMACH BC THAT DIPSH*T GOT WHAT IT DESERVED.”

Another user posted, “THE DEMONS THE DEMONS ARE TAKING OVER I NEED TO FUNPOST I NEED TO FUNPOST.”

On Reddit, commenters wrote messages such as, “Take a shot of your preferred drink! This is a day of celebration comrades!”

Others echoed chants like, “DING-DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD! WHICH OLD WITCH? THE WICKED WITCH? DING-DONG, THE WICKED WITCH IS DEAD.”

Mainstream outlets also came under fire. One MSNBC commentator suggested Kirk may have been killed by a supporter “shooting his gun off in celebration.” British journalist Piers Morgan blasted the coverage, writing on X: “MSNBC’s shameful output since Charlie Kirk was shot … confirms everything I’ve always suspected about the woke left — they’re repulsive.”

In Congress, tensions flared when Rep. Lauren Boebert attempted to lead a prayer for Kirk’s family and was interrupted by Democrats, according to witnesses.

Journalist Nick Sortor condemned the scene in a post on X, writing: “You can even hear Jasmine Crockett’s ghetto screech, and Speaker Johnson smack the gavel on her. Democrats are VILE people. PRAY FOR CHARLIE!”

The backlash underscored the sharp divide in how Americans reacted to Kirk’s assassination — with some celebrating online while others echoed Kirk’s own message about civility, warning that when dialogue ends, violence follows.
