Heavy rains over the past week have impacted a dam in Rockwall County, prompting officials to consider an evacuation order.
According to McLendon-Chisholm Mayor Bryan McNeal, the dam in the Chisholm Crossing subdivision has moved at least three feet in the last 24 hours. Residents living on Fireside Drive, Parade Point, Granite Ridge Road, Highwater Crossing, Stampede Run, or downstream from Brushy Creek received notice on Sunday evening to make preparations to evacuate if an order was issued.
The City of McLendon-Chisholm met with the Kaufman-Van Zandt-Rockwall Soil and Water Conservation District on the morning of June 3 to discuss the dam’s status. At about 11 a.m., the Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management posted a Facebook message updating residents on the situation.
“Once the state representative with Water and Soil was on scene, we made an assessment that the dam was functioning. While there is damage, the dam is safe. The citizens should not be concerned. With that, we are still going to monitor the dam. … The damage will be addressed, and we will work on repairing the dam,” per the statement from Mayor McNeal.
