Winners of the 18th annual Big Tex Choice Awards were announced by the State Fair of Texas this past Sunday, and three concoctions reigned supreme.

The Dallas Express previously reported on the competition’s finalists for 2022.

Now, here are the winners for the three categories at this year’s Big Tex Choice Awards:

For “Best Taste – Savory,” the Fried Charcuterie Board by Tami Nevin-Mayes and Josey Mayes took the top spot.

The board consists of everything you would find on a high-end party platter: mozzarella cheese, salami, green apples tossed in olive oil, Italian herbs, and balsamic. It’s then deep-fried with a wonton-like crust, drizzled with hot honey, and topped with goat cheese.

For “Best Taste – Sweet,” the Peanut Butter Paradise creation by Chris Easter and Nicole Sternes proved itself victorious.

Peanut Butter Paradise starts with a deep-fried honey bun injected with caramel and topped with peanut butter. Easter and Sternes then pile on the peanut butter with Reese’s Pieces, Butterfinger crumbles, peanut butter cups, a caramel drizzle, and powdered sugar.

For “Most Creative,” the Garza family’s entry, the Cha-Cha-Chata, clinched the first-place prize.

The Garza family’s top-secret horchata recipe was combined with milk and vanilla ice cream to create the super-sweet beverage. It’s served with a caramel and cinnamon rim, whipped cream topping, crushed candy, cinnamon galletas de gragea, deep-fried arroz con leche bites, and a churro straw.

Entries that did not make the winners’ list will still be available for public enjoyment when the State Fair opens on September 30 and will run through October 23.

Be sure to try some of the finalists previously covered in The Dallas Express, like the Holy Biscuit, the Ultimate Brookie Monster, Chicharron Explosion Nachos, and the Deep Fried Lasagna Roll.
