As dozens of school boards have instituted masking policies that alienate working citizens and students who wish to make their own medical decisions, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is filing suit.
Paxton has now filed seven lawsuits against Texas school districts that he says violated state law and Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive orders by implementing mask and vaccine mandates.
Paxton says the criminalization of law-abiding citizens will not be tolerated, saying, “I have full confidence that the courts will side with the law – not acts of political defiance.” Paxton’s office has provided a list of school districts in various states of compliance with the governor’s executive orders.
Paxton specifically addressed Pedro Martinez, superintendent of San Antonio ISD, where a policy mandating vaccines for all employees was recently implemented.
“The decision to openly violate state law and devote district resources to defending Superintendent Martinez’s unlawful actions is irresponsible,” said Paxton. “But if school districts decide to use their limited funding to try to get away with breaking the law, my office will oppose them and uphold the rule of law in Texas.”
Of the seven lawsuits filed so far, the suit against San Antonio ISD is the only one addressing mandatory vaccines, which Abbott banned in his recent executive order. The remaining six lawsuits specifically deal with mask mandates.
