North Texans are running out of time to get their children, or pets, photographed with Santa at Half Price Books. The final day Santa will appear, according to the North Texas Food Bank, is December 22. The event will last from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Any donations made during the visit will benefit the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB).
“Half Price Books is full of excitement because Santa Claus is coming to town for pictures! In keeping with Christmas-time traditions, Jolly ol’ Saint Nick will be making appearances at the Flagship HPB in Dallas,” the NTFB website shares. “Donations appreciated and will benefit the North Texas Food Bank.”
The event kicked off on November 25 and took place during weekends throughout December.
Half Price Books began in Dallas in 1972, according to the store’s website, and now spans over 120 stores across the country. Founders Pat Anderson and Ken Gjemre opened the first store in what was once a laundromat.
Half Price Books is now the U.S.’s largest family-owned new and used book retailer. The stores sell nearly anything that has been recorded or printed.
“We’ve been supporting literacy and environmental groups for more than 45 years and will continue working together to carry on the mission and causes of our founders,” the HPB website shares. “Each day when we go to work, we hope to do two things: share our favorite things with our friends and help make the world a little better. That includes recycling and donating more than a million of our overstock books each year to local nonprofits and organizations around the world.”
Since 2012, HPB has donated over 11 million books to various organizations and groups. Organizations that have received donated books from HPB include the Texas Memorial Museum, Austin Independent School District, Feed The Children, The Arts & College Preparatory College, and the Baylor Health Care System.
The North Texas Food Bank has been providing hunger relief in North Texas for 40 years and currently has a feeding network of over 200 partner agencies. Last year, NTFB distributed 125 million meals to those in need, according to the food bank.
In addition to the Holiday Pictures with Santa at Half Price Books, the North Texas Food Bank also benefits from this year’s production of A Christmas Carol. The production is put on by the Dallas Theater Center, and all donations will go to NTFB.
“Charles Dickens’ classic tale of A Christmas Carol recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come,” the DTC website shares.
A Christmas Carol premiered on November 25. The final performance will be on December 24. The show is directed by Alex Organ and choreographed by Joel Ferrell.
