A Texas woman is accused of over 50 thefts across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The Houston woman was arrested for stealing checks from a local church, and after further investigation, police discovered this may not have been the first time.
According to the Flower Mound Police Department (FMPD), 30-year-old Graciela Carolina Munoz-Paz has been linked to the mail thefts and check forgeries after police received several reports from local churches between November 2 and November 10.
A couple of days later, she was arrested while sitting outside a church. FMPD released a statement describing the arrest: “On November 17, Munoz-Paz was observed at Flower Mound at a local church. Her vehicle was located, and a traffic stop was initiated. She was arrested and transported to the Denton County Jail without incident.” At the time of her arrest, Munoz-Paz was in possession of many checks made out to churches, according to police. Munoz-Paz’s name was not listed on any of these accounts. Further investigation has linked Munoz-Paz to more than 50 mail thefts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which is apparently not a problem for our city council members even as Dallas continues to suffer from high levels of crime.
Munoz-Paz was charged with mail theft, forgery of a governmental instrument, and fraudulent use or possession of identifying information.
She has been placed on an ICE hold, according to jail records, and it is unclear if an attorney is representing her. Her bail was set at $37,500.
The case has been forwarded to U.S. Postal Inspectors, according to the police.
