“Toys and Hope for Marlin,” a holiday toy drive, is asking for help to fulfill its needs by this Sunday.
The drive is taking place at Renew Beauty, a med spa in NorthPark Center.
They are looking for new, unwrapped toys for the children of Marlin. Marlin is a small rural town outside of Waco. With a population of 5,000, it is expected that there are about 400 Marlin children in need.
The owner of Renew Beauty, who is hosting the drive, stated that she had a special connection to the town, but the drive has not received as much attention from donors as it needs.
If you are interested in donating, the donation box is in the spa on the upper level located near Neiman Marcus, at NorthPark Center, 8687 N US 75-Central Expy 1000.
John Armstrong, a minister at the Marlin Church of Christ, said in a Facebook video that the drive would hopefully bring attention to the young people struggling in their community. The people of Marlin want to make sure that regardless of difficult circumstances, children are still able to be children around the holidays and “have fun as kids do.”
Although many toy drives have already reached their deadlines for donations, there are still some active ones in the DFW area. If you want to donate, consider the following:
Holiday at Fairview Town Center (329 Town Pl. in Fairview) is accepting donations for the last time this season on Saturday, December 17, and is looking for new and unwrapped toys.
Southlake Police and Fire Toy Drive is accepting donations at lobby drop boxes all the way through Christmas Eve. They are looking for new and unwrapped toys for any age, from infants to teens. Toys can be dropped off at 2100 West Southlake Blvd., 100 East Dove Rd., or 600 State St. in Southlake.
Eventbrite offers a list of other toy drives in the DFW area this weekend, many of which are being held at Christmas celebrations that are free to attend.
