A major storm system swept through North Texas, producing at least one damaging tornado.

This storm is part of a winter storm that had swept through the western United States, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

The entire region entered a tornado watch on Tuesday that was active until 11 a.m. CST. according to the National Weather Service.

Tornado warnings went into effect for Tarrant, Wise, Hood, and surrounding counties before the storms moved east into Dallas County.

The tornado that was produced caused damage to structures and vehicles and power outages in Grapevine, Decatur, and North Richland Hills.

Citizens tweeted images of what appeared to be a funnel cloud inside the city of Grapevine.

Grapevine police officials confirmed that five people were injured by the storm and subsequently hospitalized. None of the victims sustained any life-threatening injuries.

Grapevine Mills Mall, Walmart, and Sam’s Club remained closed for the day due to sustained damages. Officials asked civilians to keep clear of Hwy. 26/114 West, 3000 Grapevine Mills Pkwy., and Dove Loop/Shady Brook Dr.

Several city roads remained closed due to debris and downed power lines.

Grapevine safety officials are busy assessing damage to the city.

Police in North Richland Hills confirmed in a press release that 20 houses and businesses suffered damage from the storm.

“The preliminary line of damage spans approximately two miles from around Smithfield/Starnes northeast to Precinct Line/North Tarrant,” the press release said. At 8:15 a.m., “Fire station one reported seeing rotation just south of the station as well as hearing a continuous rumble sound when the second Tornado Warning was activated.”

No injuries have been reported, and officials are still assessing the damage.

The alleged tornado damaged many homes in Decatur and elsewhere.

Isabella Gonzalez told the Star-Telegram about her experience as the storm damaged her home.

“The house was shaking and the restroom, like the windows, were making a really loud noise,” said Gonzalez. “And then I heard, like all the windows shattering in the kitchen. And then I just grabbed onto the bar that was in the restroom,” she continued.

The Federal Aviation Administration temporarily halted incoming flights into DFW airport. However, conditions quickly returned to normal, and operations resumed at 9:30 a.m.
