The Stars beat the Senators 4-3 on Thursday night to avoid a three-game losing streak after Tyler Seguin drilled a goal with just 30 seconds left on the overtime clock at the American Airlines Arena.

Seguin notched his fifth goal of the year for Dallas when he took a pass from rookie Wyatt Johnston and netted the game-winner past Ottawa netminder Anton Forsberg. It was the first time in five attempts that the Stars have left the ice with a victory in OT this season.

With just over five minutes in the third frame of Thursday night’s contest, Nils Lundkvist smacked a shot past Forsberg to knot the game at 3-3.

Miro Heiskanen got things going early for the Stars with two goals in the first period after being shutout against Toronto on Tuesday night.

The Stars slipped to second in goals scored this season (102) behind Buffalo (104) after leading the NHL most of the season.

BY THE NUMBERS

Heiskanen’s two goals in 1:48 were the fifth-fastest by a defenseman in Stars history, according to NHL.

Seguin’s tenth overtime goal put him one behind Jamie Benn as the player with the most in Stars/Minnesota North Stars history. On Thursday, he scored his first goal in the last 10 games.

With 47 game-winning goals, Seguin is now all-time third behind Modano (92) and Benn (52) in the Dallas stat books.

Stars forward Jason Robertson was scoreless for the second straight game following his 18-game point streak.

WHAT THEY SAID

“It’s a funny game,” Seguin told NHL after the win. “I feel like I’m playing well the last couple games, a lot of chances, no finish. Tonight, I thought I [stunk] and scored the overtime winner. Definitely felt good.”

“Miro’s adding layers to his game,” Stars manager Peter DeBoer said, NHL.com reported. “We’re asking an awful lot of him: defend, score, play 28 minutes, do everything. I’m a little worried about wearing him out, overusing him, asking too much of him, because it’s a long season. But he’s a great player and can do about anything out there.”
