Police in Fort Worth shot and killed a man Wednesday at a gas station for allegedly firing a gun at them, WFAA reported.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was reportedly walking back and forth with a gun in his hand at the QuikTrip on Northeast 28th Street near 35W.
The Fort Worth Police Department said it received multiple calls about the suspect, and officers were dispatched to the scene at 12:40 a.m.
When the police officers arrived, the suspect walked out of the store and immediately began firing shots at them, police claimed. The officers fired back, striking the suspect, and immediately began life-saving measures on the suspect until paramedics arrived.
The suspect was pronounced dead at a local hospital. No officers were injured in the shooting incident.
“At this time, we do not believe it was an active robbery or anything like that, but we do believe it was possibly a person in distress,” Fort Worth police spokesman Buddy Calzada said, according to Fox 4.
The shooting is currently under investigation, police said. They are interviewing employees of the gas station store as well as customers. In addition, the police plan on reviewing surveillance footage of the incident.
Police said they will provide more information in the near future.
