In North Texas, several groups and organizations recently came together to show appreciation for pastors as the holiday season draws nearer.
“We wanted to reach out and thank all these pastors because the city and the communities don’t move without pastors,” Mitchell Ward, CEO of MW Logistics and founder of MW Cares Foundation, told NBC DFW.
“I don’t care if you’re Catholic, Baptist, whatever religion you are, if you don’t have that man of God leading people, we’re not gonna be successful as we need to be.”
Ward and his company’s nonprofit joined The Big Good to treat more than a hundred local and area pastors to lunch this year. Why? Simply to thank them for the good they do for their communities.
The luncheon also served the purpose of kicking off this week’s Holiday Giveaway.
Led by college football coach Gary Patterson, organizations and people such as MW Cares, The Big Good, and Grammy Award-winning recording artist and Fort Worth native Leon Bridges will help Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) in giving back to the community.
TAFB will serve thousands at a Mega Mobile Market event at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Thursday, November 17, from 8 a.m. until noon.
“Everyone will get a turkey, and we’ll be giving out 60 pounds of food to get them through the holiday season,” Ward said. “So, that will be anything from stuffing, green beans, mac and cheese, what they would normally use during the Thanksgiving holiday.”
The mobile market is just one of several events being hosted this week by TAFB and its partners.
On Wednesday, TAFB will have a table at the Homeless Veterans Stand Down Distribution event. Guests will receive food and can register for SNAP benefits at Resource Connection Gym in Fort Worth from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
On Thursday, November 17, the Annual Mega Mobile Market event will take place at AT&T Stadium from 8 a.m. to noon. It is presented in partnership with the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, AT&T Stadium, Dallas Cowboys, American Airlines, the Arlington police and fire departments, MW Cares Foundation, and The Big Good charity.
On Friday, November 18, the Como Community Center will host an event beginning at 9 a.m. for Como Neighbors in need at 4660 Home Street in Fort Worth.
On Saturday, November 19, Bishop Michael E. and First Lady Jana K. Williams will present the Turkey Giveaway Thanksgiving Distribution. The food distribution will be held at 1911 Yuma in Fort Worth, beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting until noon.
Harvesting In Mansfield will host a distribution on Monday, November 21, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 150 S. 6th Ave. in Mansfield.
