A school board trustee for Mansfield Independent School District (MISD) was arrested over the weekend on family violence charges.
Bianca Benavides Anderson, 49, board secretary and trustee for Place 5, was taken into police custody on October 22 around 2 a.m. when Mansfield police officers responded to a “domestic incident” at a home on Ascot Park Drive.
Upon their arrival, the responding police officers concluded that Anderson had committed an assault resulting in bodily injury that fell under the category of “Family Violence,” according to a statement provided to The Dallas Express by the Mansfield Police Department.
She was placed under arrest and taken to the local jail, before subsequently bonding out. It is unclear whether she has secured legal counsel.
The Dallas Express asked Mansfield police if someone other than the responding officers had pressed charges against Anderson and what probable cause existed for the arrest. A spokesperson for the department declined to answer those questions.
Anderson was first elected in May of this year.
The president of MISD‘s Board of Trustees, Courtney Lackey Wilson told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that she has had a discussion with the district’s lawyer and that board members are “assessing and evaluating the situation.”
The Dallas Express emailed Anderson, asking her whether someone accused her of committing an illegal act of violence or if Mansfield police just arrested her even though no one was pressing charges. She did not respond by press time.
