The hotel stood for more than 100 years and might stand for another 100.
With some apologies to Shirley Jackson, Miss Molly’s Hotel, a former brothel turned hotel built in 1910, is reportedly haunted, according to WFAA.
“Some guests came and didn’t leave,” Paula Gowins, general manager of the Fort Worth-based hotel, told WFAA. “They stayed.”
Gowins, who started working at the hotel 15 years ago, said she herself has experienced things of a paranormal nature while working there. Some of those things included unexplained flickering lights, objects disappearing, and locking doors.
“Things started happening and I was like, ‘Ok, I didn’t do that,’” Gowins said. Much of it, she could dismiss until one night she saw something that couldn’t be explained when she was in the hotel alone.
“I saw a man,” Gowins said. “He was headed toward that room,” pointing to one of the hotel’s eight rooms, “so I followed him. I opened it up and nobody was in there. That’s when I called for help.”
Gowins reached out to mediums, psychics, and the like to help explain what she saw. Their conclusion was that it was a cowboy by the name of Jake. Apparently, he died in one of the rooms of the hotel. It was common for cowboys during the early 20th century to visit Miss Molly’s when it was a brothel, Gowins said.
A picture of Jake was reportedly taken by women who were staying at Miss Molly’s. They took a group photo together and saw his silhouette in the picture afterward.
Some guests have even reportedly seen Miss Josie, the madam of the brothel, in a room she used to stay in. “They said they’ve seen her standing here watching them sleep,” Gowins said.
Gowins said the ghosts are pretty much harmless, though, more scared of living things apparently than the other way around.
