H-E-B will be opening a grocery store in McKinney, Texas on the northeast corner of Custer Road and Eldorado Parkway.
Further details on the project are to be revealed at the store’s groundbreaking ceremony, which is expected later in the year.
H-E-B also said that they expect to open a third store in McKinney in 2023.
“I am very excited to have H-E-B join our community,” McKinney Mayor George Fuller told The Dallas Express.
“H-E-B is a quality company that delivers quality goods at competitive prices, though they take everything a step further by establishing a vibe and culture that excites customers.”
Fuller also discussed the response of the community.
“Since announcing the news, I have been inundated with emails from excited residents,” Fuller said. “I believe that our business community will always welcome other quality companies that expand the offerings to the residential community and build synergy.”
Fuller then discussed the city’s involvement in H-E-B’s decision to come to McKinney.
“We have a team that has been involved in the due diligence and decision process for HEB and have worked hard to bring this move to fruition,” Fuller said.
The H-E-B company is 116 years old and originated in the Hill Country. The company has spread throughout Texas with locations in Houston, Austin and San Antonio while also expanding internationally into Mexico.
H-E-B also broke ground on planned stores in Plano and Frisco last week, the stores had been previously announced and are anticipated to open by fall of 2022.
Conversely, there has been some criticism that H-E-B continues to open stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and not in underrepresented areas that are sometimes referred to as “food deserts.”
Officials from food banks expressed their disappointment with the decision of where to open stores.
