The global headquarters for oneworld Alliance will be relocating from New York City to Fort Worth, according to a recent press release, and will work to strengthen the DFW region as an aviation hub.
Oneworld Alliance will join one of its founding members, American Airlines, in the DFW region. The alliance is made up of a system of member airlines working to enhance air travel, the news release shared.
The headquarters will be located on American Airlines’ 300-acre Robert L. Crandall campus near the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport starting in December 2022.
Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker said the new headquarters would be a good addition to the city.
“It’s go time in Fort Worth, and we’re focusing on growing jobs and creating opportunities for everyone. Oneworld will be a wonderful addition to Fort Worth,” Parker said in the news release.
“The robust air service that American and other oneworld carriers provide connects our region to the world, and that connectivity is part of what makes Fort Worth such an attractive place for businesses to invest and grow. I’m excited about what the future holds with American and oneworld sharing a home in Fort Worth.”
Dallas-Fort Worth is one of the quickest-growing oneworld network hubs, with almost 900 flights offered to over 260 destinations each day.
Seven other oneworld members serve the DFW region in addition to American Airlines: Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Qantas, Alaska Airlines, and British Airways.
American Airlines CEO Robert Isom stated in the news release that working closer to oneworld will be good for all of the alliance’s members.
“We are thrilled to welcome the oneworld team to our Skyview campus in Fort Worth,” Isom said. “American is committed to building and delivering the very best global network and oneworld is an important part of that mission. The American and oneworld teams working more closely together will be tremendously beneficial to oneworld’s member airlines and customers around the world.”
Rob Gurney, oneworld central management team’s CEO since 2016, will continue to lead the team at the new headquarters.
“As our industry recovers from COVID-19, alliances and partnerships have continued to deepen. With our new home in Fort Worth, we anticipate even closer collaboration with American and our member airlines as we work side by side to further grow and strengthen oneworld,” Gurney said in the news release.
His Excellency Akbar Al Baker, the chairman of oneworld and chief executive of Qatar Airways Group, said this relocation marks a significant move for the alliance.
“It is a significant step to relocate our oneworld global headquarters to the state-of-the-art Robert L. Crandall Campus to be close to American Airlines, one of our founder members,” Al Baker stated in the news release.
“Its home hub at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is one of the largest airports in our alliance and serviced by eight members, demonstrating its unrivaled connectivity and importance to travelers as a global hub.”
The alliance first launched in 1999 in Vancouver before moving to New York City in 2011.
