As we pass the midway point of the Texas high school football regular season, the top-ranked teams from the DFW area continue to show why they are highly ranked.

Once again, all ranked teams from the DFW area won their Week 6 district matchup except for one, who lost to another ranked team. In 5A Div. II, Colleyville Heritage was ranked No.5 before falling to No.8 Grapevine, now the new No.5 team in the classification’s rankings.

Below will be recaps of some of the biggest games featuring DFW-area schools ranked in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football high school football rankings.

6A:

No.9 Allen 34, Prosper Rock Hill 14

Prosper Rock Hill held a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Allen turned it on the rest of the way to remain undefeated in District 5-6A with a decisive home win.

Allen (5-1, 3-0 District 5-6A) was led by quarterback Mike Hawkins who completed 18-of-26 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns. Hawkins’ longest play of the night was a 55-yard touchdown pass to Messiah Washington at 11:20 in the fourth to go up 34-7. Washington finished with 161 yards receiving.

Kayvion Sibley also helped power Allen to the win over Rock Hill (2-4, 1-2) with 160 yards rushing and one touchdown.

Next, Allen will host McKinney (5-1, 3-0) in a clash with serious playoff-seeding implications for District 5-6A.

No.12 Highland Park 35, Dallas Jesuit 28

Highland Park led 35-0 entering the final quarter, but four unanswered touchdowns from Jesuit changed a blowout into a one-score game, forcing Highland Park to eke out a home victory.

Highland Park (5-0, 3-0 District 7-6A) led 28-0 at halftime as running back Jay Cox had two short first-half touchdowns run, while quarterback Brennan Storer connected with Luke Herring for a 37-yard score in the first and ran in a touchdown at the end of the second.

Storer linked up with Cox for a 26-yard touchdown with 3:53 left in the third to make it a 35-0 game.

Jesuit’s (4-2, 3-1 District 7-6A) 28-0 run to close the game came was powered by quarterback Charlie Schmidt rushing for two touchdowns and passing for a pair. Jesuit’s onside kick attempt in the game’s final seconds was unsuccessful.

Jesuit was considered the biggest threat to Highland Park in District 7-6A. Highland Park is now expected to cruise to a district title with the win.

No.20 Rockwall 37, Mesquite Horn 34

In a fight for the District 10-6A lead, Rockwall cornerback Tosta Emory’s 31-yard interception return with five minutes remaining was crucial to his school’s road victory over Mesquite Horn.

Rockwall (5-1, 2-0 District 10-6A) got big performances from running back Ashten Emory (131 total yards), receiver Noble Johnson (four catches, 99 yards), and quarterback Lake Bennett (276 passing yards, 68 rushing, and three touchdowns).

Horn (4-2, 1-1), off to its best start since 2017 under first-year head coach Courtney Allen, fought back from a 23-7 deficit to take a 27-23 lead less than four minutes into the third quarter.

However, a fumble recovered by Rockwall set them up for a touchdown to regain the lead. Bennett’s 3-yard scoring run, his third on the night, made it 30-27 with 10 minutes to go.

Emory’s interception return gave Rockwall a ten-point lead, but Horn still kept battling, marching 78 yards down the field for a touchdown to close within three points with 1:41 remaining. However, a penalty canceled Horn’s recovery of an onside kick, sealing the Rockwall victory.

5A Div. II:

No.5 Grapevine 44, Colleyville Heritage 26

Running back Parker Polk rushed for 197 yards and three touchdowns to help Grapevine defeat rivals Colleyville-Heritage for the first time since 2018.

Grapevine (4-1, 2-0 District 4-5A Div. II) led by one point at halftime before exploding to score 23 second-half points to seal the win. The run game was dominant and key to the Grapevine win, as they racked up 440 total yards on the ground led by Polk while attempting just ten passes all game.

Colleyville Heritage (3-2, 0-1) entered the game with 5A Div. II’s top defense against the run. But it was no match versus Grapevine as running back Reid Watkins (67 yards), and quarterback Evan Baum (62 yards) added to their school’s rushing totals and had a touchdown each.

Grapevine ran away with it early in the second half with back-to-back possessions ending in 30-yard rushing touchdowns, putting it up 14. It extended its lead with a field goal and iced it with Watkins’ touchdown in the fourth.

The win for Grapevine appears to have cleared the road to a District 4-5A Div. II title, with Colleyville Heritage expected to be a close second.
