On North Texas Giving Day, the Dallas Architecture and Design Exchange (AD EX) hosted a small celebration to thank donors who have contributed to their mission.
AD EX is a local organization that shares architecture with the Dallas community.
“Our mission is to foster access to architecture and design for all,” Managing Director Katie Hitt told The Dallas Express. “Everyone can understand and experience architecture.”
Elizabeth Jones, marketing and events coordinator, told The Dallas Express that design and architecture have the perception a particular segment of society can only enjoy them.
AD EX strives to break down those barriers — to make design accessible to everyone regardless of socio-economic status.
Jones told The Dallas Express that architecture — or “art with a purpose,” as she called it — is something everyone can approach from their own unique perspective.
Some people approach it from a more artistic point of view, while others have a more pragmatic functional perspective. AD EX helps foster people’s appreciation of architecture from whatever perspective they may be inclined to have.
Currently, AD EX is hosting an exhibition on the architecture of Charles Dilbeck, one of Dallas’ most iconic architects. In October, they plan to launch an exhibition celebrating 75 years of the Dallas chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
These exhibits can be seen at AD EX’s location in the Republic Center at 325 North St. Paul St., Suite 150. Exhibition hours are Tuesday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
AD EX also offers a variety of programs for children to encourage them to “think about architecture and design in the world around them.”
AD EX wants the people of DFW to know they are present and available to help people of all classes celebrate and learn about architecture and design.
