Garland police announced on Friday that the suspect in the shooting of a South Garland High School student has been arrested.
Police responded shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, to the report of a shooting in the 3300 block of Broadway Boulevard.
The suspect and the victim were reportedly outside a Sonic drive-in that lies a short walk away from South Garland High School when the two became involved in a fight, after which the suspect allegedly shot the victim.
The victim, identified as a male adult, was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable but critical condition.
Police began searching for the suspect, who was described as a Hispanic male between the ages of 17 and 19, with a short haircut, wearing gray sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.
Local schools in the area went into lockdown as a precautionary measure.
The following day, Garland police announced the arrest of Edgar Francisco Solis Torres, 18, in connection with the shooting. He was charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. No bond was set.
Police also confirmed that the male victim, who has not been publicly identified, was a student at South Garland High School. The suspect, however, has no known connection to the school. The shooting is still under investigation.
