A Frisco couple has made it a family tradition to give to over 300 organizations annually for North Texas Giving Day.
They say they are not trying to break or create any records, but Dan and Rebecca Tatsch’s love of animals has led them to donate to every animal organization participating in the annual event.
“I think our fantasy is buying hundreds of acres, moving out to the country, and adopting them all. Although we know that’s not realistic,” Dan told WFAA.
The Frisco couple, who share their home with six dogs, want to help as many other animals as possible, so each year, they go through the North Texas Giving Day website to donate to all the animal charities they can find.
“We saw a lot of charities that had a tally of zero,” Dan said. “And that just felt really bad.”
In 2021, the couple contributed to 333 different charitable organizations so that none of them would finish the donation period with zero balance. Although the majority were animal-based charities, about a dozen were not.
To date, no one in the history of North Texas Giving Day has given to more charities than Dan and Rebecca. The couple’s philosophy is to give, no matter how much or how little, because there are organizations all over North Texas that need assistance.
“Every dollar donated makes a difference,” Rebecca said. “It truly does, and I believe that from the bottom of my heart.”
North Texas Giving “Day” started early this year. The giving began on September 1 and will culminate on September 22, the biggest day of giving. More than 3,000 nonprofit organizations from 20 counties need assistance.
“The money raised on North Texas Giving Day goes directly to the nonprofits that are doing amazing work to make Dallas and the surrounding communities a better place to live and work for everyone,” Chris McSwain, director of community engagement at Communities Foundation of Texas, told The Dallas Express.
