After escaping from Cass County jail in Linden on Monday night, an armed and dangerous inmate was caught on Wednesday in Louisiana.

Charles Obin Spraberry, 44, was caught around 8 a.m. after a short car chase outside Shreveport. A woman was with him in the vehicle. Both were arrested and are being held at the Caddo Correctional Center in Shreveport.

Cass County Judge Travis Ransom explained that Spraberry was in jail for “multiple felonies including sexual assault, assault with a deadly weapon, assault by strangulation, and kidnapping.” In addition, “he is a person of interest for a dual-homicide that is currently ongoing and under investigation.”

Now caught, Spraberry will have a felony escape charge added to his other charges.

Spraberry reportedly used a shiv to assault a jailer and steal his keys. The guard sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

Spraberry then went to the jail’s booking area and “forced a female jailer to open the door to the outside.” From there, he ran out the door and escaped the premises wearing only white boxer shorts and a white t-shirt.

The county officials called in local, regional, state, and federal law enforcement to aid in apprehending the fugitive.
