On Monday afternoon, a brush fire spread south of Gainesville on FM 2070, near I-35, eventually spanning hundreds of acres.
At 1:24 p.m. on August 15, Gainesville emergency services received the call reporting the blaze. A control center was designated at the junction of County Roads 372 and 227. By 4:15 p.m., the fire was 90% contained, the scene commander reported.
As of 3 p.m. on Friday, the fire — called the CW Fire — had spanned 346 acres and was 100% contained. There were no reported injuries or mandated evacuation.
The cause of the fire was not confirmed.
Gainesville FD, Muenster Fire and Rescue, and additional Cooke County departments worked the scene. Texas A&M Forest Services also responded to a request for assistance by sending a strike force of four brush trucks to Gainesville earlier this month. They will aid with fighting fires throughout the North Texas region.
An outdoor burn ban has been in effect for Cooke County for the last six weeks. The North Texas county is just one of the 222 Texas counties that have instated burn bans amid the dry weather.
